PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening cup on fourteen separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown between the French league winners and the French Cup winners after the French winger found the net early on.

Yet, Marseille struck twice in the closing moments to seize a surprise lead. Initially, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital leveler in the dying seconds to send the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 penalty victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
